From Mike Johnson:

John Ashford

We have heard from Fergus Muir of the death, in a nursing home near his North Norfolk home, of former club member, John Ashford.  John was a friend of Brian Foster and I believe a one time 1st Cat road man. John was our Club 12hr Champion in 1995.

John's funeral will take place at Cromer Crematorium at 10am on Thursday 16th August. This will be followed by a Memorial Service at St. Nicholas’ Church in Wells at 12 o’clock and then a reception at The Bowling Green Inn, opposite the church.

From Mike Johnson:

Jack Webster

Sadly one of my old NABC friends Jack Webster from the 1950s died last Saturday – he was in his early 90s.  He joined the club in the early 50s & was a regular on Sunday club runs with his wife, Dot, who survives him.  He rode time trials at 10 to 100 miles & was Time Trial Secretary from 1954 to 1959 when the job involved organising ALL the opens!   One of his claims to fame, with me, was the successful attempt on the Norwich – Cambridge & back tandem record in 1956.  It still stands, probably because, to my knowledge, no one has attempted to beat it!

At the end of WW2 he was in Lancasters over Berlin & received a decoration some years ago for his part in Bomber Command.

From Mike Johnson:

Ray Snelling

Sadly I have to report the death of one our star club members of the 1950s – Ray Snelling.  Ray joined the Amateurs in 1951 & became an active club member.  In time trials he was noted for his 100s & 12hrs &  was 100 miles Club champion in 1954, 12hrs champion in 1954 & 1957; and was Club BAR in both those years.  He was 83 & had been fighting cancer for many years.  He lost his wife, Joyce, a few  years ago.

From Martyn Taylor:

It is with a sad heart that the club has learnt of the passing of one of our recently joined members - Cyril Harrison.

Below is an extract from the e-mail, sent today by Cyril's daughter Emma Harrison:

It is with great sadness that I write this as my dad passed away at Addenbrookes Hospital on the 22nd January 2016 after receiving serious injuries from the road traffic collision he was in whilst on his bike on the 9th November 2015.

I would very much appreciate if you could pass on this information to anyone who knew my dad at the cycling club.

Kind Regards

Emma Harrison
