NABC has many riders who regularly ride local events. There are events for the experienced rider or the novice. Anyone who is 12 years old or over can ride and we have quite a number of keen young riders in the club. Please note that all riders under the age of 18 can only race with the written consent of their parent. (See under the Club Evening 10 Series for more information.)
For those of you who are new to the sport, the NABC Club Evening 10 Series is an ideal place to start. These races are held on a circuit, using quiet country roads. (See below for more details.) Riders do not need to enter in advance. All you need to do is turn up, sign on and ride. There is no pre-arranged starting order and the order of start is at the discretion of the Time Keepers.
Other clubs in the area also run evening 10 mile time trials. To find information on all local club events, the East District Cycling Association Handbook is a must. At only £2 it is a bargain. These can be obtained from the Chairman. This handbook also gives information on all Open Events.
To enter an Open Event riders must submit an official entry form which has to arrive at least 2 weeks prior to the event. For more information on how to enter an Open Event go to the Cycling Time Trials website at www.ctt.org.uk. This site also gives dates and the courses for all local Open Events. However, the site does not give the addresses of Event organisers. To find these riders need to purchase a Cycling Time Trials Handbook which is available through the website at £7.
After the closing date for the Event, organisers will organise the riders into their starting position. All the information on how a rider’s start position in an Open Event is decided is available from the CTT website. You need to go to ‘About CTT - Rider Info - Forms/Guidance notes’. This section gives a huge amount of useful information and all forms are downloadable in Word of Pdf format.
All Open Events are carefully marshalled, although not all junctions are manned for club events. However, both types of event follow strict safety procedures. At all times the key responsibility for safety lies with the rider.
